Riding at Wentz Stables is like being a part of a family that is always there for you.  Not only is riding good for the body, it nourishes the mind.  Wentz Stables is my happy place and I can't imagine life without being there!

Wentz Stables is about family. Not the cliche "family owned", but a true family where you belong. You share fun and challenges, receive guidance from generations of caring, supportive lifelong professionals. All of this at the best facility in the Lehigh Valley.

Karen Roberts

Wentz Stables is a caring, loving and professional training facility to both my American Saddlebred horse and me. We are both flourishing. I greatly appreciate it and love being part of the Wentz family. We can't wait until show season!

Lisa Bernfeld

I consider myself a horse person - I’ve had horses for over 40 years. During these years, I boarded in and visited many stables, but nothing can compare to the care and warmth I receive at Wentz. Not only are they an amazing group of trainers, but are thoughtful caregivers. Tara, Kirby, and Tiana are unmatched in their training abilities, and it truly brings me joy to watch them work. They treat each horse & rider with respect, and keep their best interests in mind while also encouraging them to succeed. At Wentz Stables, we aren’t just boarders and horses - we’re a team.

Donna Conroy

The inter generational team at Wentz Stables offers deep experience and a variety of ideas that Tara pulls together into a personalized plan for each rider. They build lasting confidence and progress the riding skill level appropriately.

Shannon Church

The most enjoyable aspect of riding horses is the bond you create between horse and rider. The bonus in my case is getting to share my love of riding with my daughter. Watching her grow from a nervous rider in the beginning to one that showcases confidence, determination & passion in her riding, thanks to the team at Wentz Stables, and knowing that she will carry those life lessons with her is the best feeling. Sharing a true passion with my daughter strengthens our bond together and brings me joy knowing that we are creating a life-time of memories together.

What to wear for your lesson?

First time riders can come to introductory lesson in long pants and a hard soled shoe. We STRONGLY recommend getting proper riding gear as soon as possible.

  • Boots: The most important piece of safety gear with horses is proper riding boots. They protect your feet when working around the horses from ground and provide a secure base in the stirrups. We recommend paddock style leather riding boots. Amazon carries an inexpensive pair for beginners: Tuff Rider Starter Boots. Serious students prefer Ariats for long lasting comfort and durability.
  • Helmets: Highly recommended and required for beginner children - we recommend a proper horseback riding helmet not a bike helmet. Ovation makes a great low profile adjustable size schooling helmet available on Amazon: Ovation Schooler Helmet.
  • Riding Pants: These should have ultrasuede knee patches for a comfortable grip with the saddle. Regular pants have seams right where your leg lays on saddle. Breeches are fitted at bottom of leg and Jods are bootcut (tie downs preferred). Favorite brands include TuffRider, Kerrits, Piper Jods, Alympic Equestrian or Mod Jods.
  • Gloves: Optional but helpful for creating a better grip on the reins and keeping hands warm during winter months. Look for ones designed specifically for riding (leather or other types of non-slippery, thin material gloves) such as SSG or Heritage brands.
