After graduating college top of her class, Tara Wentz Goosley joined her father and became a second generation professional horse trainer. She always loved the challenge of training and uses her calm assertive nature to gain a horse’s trust and confidence. Tara believes happy horses will give you the best of themselves willingly rather than through force. She has used this philosophy to produce multiple World, National and Regional champions and introduce hundreds of new people to the wonderful world of horses. In addition to the training, her special gift for communication and building confidence in her students makes her an excellent instructor. She creates a positive atmosphere in the barn that is welcoming and encourages everyone to be the best version of themselves both in and out of the ring. Tara is passionate about her horses and students and strives for excellence while keeping the horse's best interests at the forefront. She prides herself on her integrity as well as teaching her riders to have a sportsmanlike attitude when competing.
Tara has her USEF Judge's license, is President of the Board of Directors for the PA Saddlebred Horse Association, is Chairperson for the Keystone Classic Horse Show, and serves on the Devon Saddlebred Hackney Horse Show committee. She has been involved with several other horse show committees over the years and has also served as UPHA Chapter 15 Chairman. Tara has also been awarded with the UPHA Ch 15 Horseman of the Year for her training accomplishments and dedication to the horse industry. Tara & her husband Bob have 3 children, Alexa, Bobby and Benjamin, who are now all learning to ride. Her love of horses is being passed onto the 3rd generation. More than anything, she loves leading the team at Wentz Stables alongside her family, including her parents Tom & Diane Wentz, Lori Weber (aunt) and Tiana Tapper (cousin).
Tiana grew up showing a variety of different divisions including Saddle Seat, Western, driving and as well as competing in the Saddle Seat equitation division. She was a Reserve World Champion with CH Lover’s Heir in the pleasure driving division during her junior exhibitor years. Always the beautiful rider, Tiana's talents as an equestrian are now paired with her valuable teaching skills. As a trainer, she shows incredible attention to detail and dedication to each of her horses.
Tiana graduated from Kutztown University with a degree in Elementary Education and was a 5th grade teacher for many years. The love of horses and desire to create her own path brought her back to Wentz Stables to train, teach and run all of our Youth programs. She brings her wealth of knowledge from teaching, along with her love for horses and positive attitude, to add something very special to our barn. Her programs are structured and well organized, as well as being fun, upbeat and filled with learning opportunities for all ages.
Lori will be the friendly face that greets you each day at the barn. She is an integral part of the day to day operations both at home and at the shows. Her dedication to Wentz Stables is apparent in everything she does and is only matched by her work ethic. She helps ensure all of the horses get the care and attention they need daily.
Lori is on the Board of Directors for the PA Saddlebred Horse Association and has served as past President. She puts on the organization's annual awards banquet & fundraiser.
Frank began working at Wentz Stables in 2012 and has grown to be everyone's right hand man. With a huge work ethic and an even bigger heart, Frank is a valued member of Wentz Stables. He attended LCTI for Heavy Construction Equipment Operations & Preventative Maintenance and loves working on restoring his US Army Cargo Truck.
As the saying goes, “you are only as good as your team” and we are certainly grateful that Frank is a part of our team! He is capable, dedicated, and wonderful with the animals. We all agree that he is one in a million!
Joe Sarnie has been one of the co-owners of Wentz Stables for many years. He is our resident watch dog and lead grounds keeper. He has been dedicated to Wentz Stables for many years and we are grateful to have him watch over the horses day and night.
Joe stays home to manage the barn while the rest of the team is at horse show. Having this 24/7 presence makes for a safe and secure environment for both the horses and guests.
Although Tom had a lifelong history with horses, it wasn't until he was introduced to the Saddlebreds in the early 1980's that he and his wife Diane developed Wentz Stables into the successful public riding and training stable it is today. Awarded with the UPHA Horseman of the Year, he was always skilled in being able to read a horse and his calm & patience approach helped to bring out the best in even the most challenging. After retiring from training horses and turning the reins over to his daughter Tara, Tom now ships the horses to all the horse shows in his prized Peterbilt.
Between organizing vetting and farrier schedules, riding suits, horse show entries, and all of the day to day business operations, you wouldn't think that Diane would have time for anything else, but she also manages to watch her cherished grandchildren several days a week. In addition, Diane is a talented artist specializing in people and pet portraits using a colored pencil and graphite medium. Her portraits are lifelike and captures the individual perfectly. Be sure to ask to see her portfolio for a special gift or unique memory.
